Color design of the interior
When we are involved in interior design, we influence its color scheme, but it is important to remember that over time it also affects us.
Color can evoke feelings of warmth or coldness, provide a sense of cheerfulness or fatigue. Colors help visually expand or contract a space, giving it transparency or solidity, enclosure or openness.
Properly selected colors in the interior can increase productivity and improve both moral and even physical condition.
When choosing a color scheme for the interior, it’s important to remember that colors are divided into warm and cool tones.
Warm colors include yellow, yellow-orange, red, red-orange, red-violet and any derivatives of them.
Cool colors include blue, violet, and the entire group of blue-green and violet tones.
If the room’s orientation is southward, then it’s better to use cool colors; if the orientation is northward, then it’s better to choose warm shades. Warm shades visually “expand” walls, while cool shades “contract” them.
You can visually raise the ceiling by using colors a few shades lighter than the main wall color.
Today there are several options for combining colors in interior design:
- Analogous. This option implies creating harmony between the main color and accents. Usually, this involves using colors that are close to each other on the spectrum.
- Contrast. In this case, two contrasting colors dominate the interior. For example, if blue is the main color, then orange or yellow is better for contrast. The furniture tone should be lighter than the flooring but darker than the walls. Ideally, contrasting color combinations should be used for the kitchen or bathroom. In a bedroom, living room, or children’s room, this option quickly becomes tiresome and starts to irritate.
- Monochrome. As an option, you can combine different shades of one color. This option is ideal for creating a calm interior. However, to avoid a dull space, it’s important not to forget bright accents in the form of wall art, furniture, and other decorative elements. When choosing a monochrome design, remember that the floor should be several shades lighter than the ceiling. In a monochrome interior, color accents are very important.
Color solutions in interiors can vary widely, but it’s important to choose colors so that they harmonize with each other and do not irritate the eye.
