How to make a wooden floor last long?
By choosing a wooden floor for the house, owners get an environmentally friendly, durable, warm, and beautiful covering. With proper treatment and care, wooden floors can last over 60 years, making them a profitable investment in the interior. Let’s look at how you can independently extend the life of your flooring using modern materials.
Primary Protection
The main enemies of wood are moisture, temperature fluctuations, and biological pests. The best protection against them is the integrity of the board and a strong coating. Examine the wooden floor. Cracks, chips, or other mechanical damage to the boards should be filled with wood filler. For this, you can use special TRIORA wood filler. If you are restoring an old floor and have found areas affected by rot, be sure to remove them mechanically, then sand and apply filler. It will not only level the surface and hide imperfections, but also block water and bacteria from accessing the inside of the board.
Prevent Damage
One way to provide antibacterial treatment for wood is to apply a primer. How necessary is it in floor repair? If the covering is new, a primer will increase the level of protection. Special TRIORA wood-protective primer forms a waterproof coating on the floor and ensures good adhesion of the surface with decorative coatings as well as even distribution of subsequent layers of material. The primer contains antiseptics that deeply penetrate into the wood structure and block mold development inside. One layer is enough to get good coverage. Be sure to allow the primer to dry completely before applying any decorative coating.
Decorate and Strengthen
There are several options for decorative coatings for wooden surfaces. For example, it is convenient to cover a floor with varnish. A suitable option can be found in the “ZEBRA” line. A parquet-varnished wooden floor in an apartment has a beautiful shine and does not fade in sunlight. Or you can choose colored enamel instead—it provides a dense and uniform glossy finish with high coverage.
A new wooden floor should be strengthened in three stages for best durability. However, a floor that has already been used is better to restore based on its condition and what type of covering was previously used. If all work is done correctly, your next floor repair will not be needed sooner than in 10 years.
