The most important tips for interior painting

Is it possible to do repairs yourself without mistakes? Of course! Especially if you get advice from an experienced specialist. Here are our tips on how to paint interior walls correctly.

List of Important Tips

Tip #1. Move unnecessary things to another room

Home repairs start with preparing the space. If you plan to paint the walls, try to remove as much as possible from the room—small furniture, carpets, curtains, blinds. All this only complicates the work process. Move what you can’t carry out into the center of the room. This way you’ll have maximum access to the surfaces you want to paint.

Tip #2. Don’t forget about protection

What’s easier: cleaning the house after repairs or covering everything with plastic film? Definitely the second option. So add mounting film and tape to your shopping list before the repair. Cover all unpainted surfaces, as well as any remaining furniture and windows, with film and tape it down with mounting tape. Later, when you remove the film after finishing the work, you’ll only need regular cleaning—there will be much less dust and you won’t have to scrub paint or other materials off the floor.

Tip #3. Use materials from one manufacturer

Why is this so important? The thing is, materials from different manufacturers usually contain different binding agents. When they come into contact, a conflict between coatings can occur, causing the top layer to peel off and damaging or destroying the surface. To avoid risks, choose all materials (putty, primer, paint) from one manufacturer. TRIORA materials contain identical substances that ensure good adhesion and result in a strong and reliable final layer. Tip #4. Take drying times into account

Surface repairs are done in several steps: puttying, intermediate priming, painting with two coats of paint. After applying each layer it’s important to wait until it is completely dry. Don’t try to speed up the process. Underdried layers will definitely cause problems with the final coat.

Tip #5. Use the right tool for each type of work

The more conveniently you choose your tools, the easier your work will be and the better your final result. For painting large surfaces choose large rollers or brushes; small tools are easier for small areas. Round rollers will help you paint corners and wall joints neatly. Optimal tool selection affects both process and results. For example, using a small roller on large walls leads to spots and streaks, while a large roller applies paint more evenly.

Tip #6. Clean tools after every stage and store materials correctly

If you plan to use a tool again in future, wash it immediately after finishing work—don’t leave it “for later.” Paint can dry even if a roller is left soaking in water. Prompt cleaning will let you save your tools for future repairs. If you have any materials left over, make sure they are tightly sealed. Pour small amounts of material into a smaller container—the less air in the container, the longer your paint will last. In practice, everything is simple. We are sure you’ll succeed! Act according to plan, follow the application rules and drying times for materials. Painting is easy—the main thing is to focus on quality results and remember these tips.
