Why you shouldn’t split your renovation into stages

How do you prefer it: renovation in 1 month or in 1 year? The speed of renovation work depends on the readiness of the apartment owners and their finances. But how should you do renovation properly? We analyze experts’ advice and draw conclusions.

Why are stages necessary in renovation?

The renovation process involves carrying out tasks sequentially, from preparatory work to final décor. It’s impossible to glue and plaster a wall at the same time. Doing renovations step by step is an organic process, in which the main thing is organization.

What is better not to split into stages?

  • Планирование бюджетаBudget planning. Prices change, and not always for the better. Calculate future expenses before starting work, and you will get an amount close to reality.
  • Purchasing materials. Products in the store are not always identical. For example, two enamels from different batches will not have the same color. The same applies to color mixing of paints. Paints colored at different times by the same machine can differ in shade, which will be noticeable on the wall. Tint all the paint you need at once.
  • Finding and hiring workers. Professional specialists use materials rationally, don’t waste extra, and perform high-quality home renovations. And if you know a team with positive reviews ready to start work—don’t postpone repairs. Do it while you’ve found good workers.

It’s best to complete these three points in one go. As for everything else, it’s better to act traditionally, doing the work step by step.

How to do renovation step by step without mistakes?

  • Как сделать ремонт поэтапно без ошибок?The main thing in renovation is the plan. Thorough planning allows you not to miss important details. Include all jobs—from removing furniture to finishing decorative work.
  • Measure your rooms: length, width of walls, area. This way you’ll calculate material consumption. Once you’ve chosen the material, you can find out its usage rate and calculate how much you need.
  • When starting renovation, carry out work in sequence from ceiling to floor. This minimizes the risk of new surfaces getting dirty.
  • Perform work in order: from primary to final finishing. Don’t forget to allow for drying time: more is okay, less—never.
  • Finish work on one surface at a time. You can’t finish half a wall and then start the other half a day later. Otherwise, paint will show a difference in shade, and putty will have to be sanded in parts as it dries. If you’re short on time, do one wall per session.

Renovation is a combination of procurement strategies, sourcing quality materials, professional workmanship, and competent time management. The main thing is to act thoughtfully—and everything will work out.
